What, No Rabbits?

Considering what happened with Ryan Smyth these days are a little bittersweet for many but there is no denying that the acquisition of Visnovsky and the repeated talk of a veteran forward coming in has Oiler fans all atwitter like coeds at a pajama party.

Excuse me while I get a hold of myself, so to speak.

Anyways seeing as Lowe is going to dip into the free agent market or trade Joni Pitkanen for Hossa, Jagr, Havlat, Kovalchuk, Demitra, Spezza, Fisher and Vermette, Bouwmeester, Hull, Howe and Orr in their prime (total cap hit - 500 grand!), the ghost of Howie Morenz, Alaska, Louisiana, an original print of Citizen Kane, a copy of Ulysses signed by the author, Guinness for life, a trip to Bud Camp, the key to success, Paris Hilton's virginity, Natalie Portman's phone number, tigers, lions, elephants, buffaloes, donkeys, giraffes, octopuses, rhinoceroses, and moose, one wonders, what, no rabbits are available?

I can only imagine what happens when Lowe's acquisitions turn out to be Kyle Calder, Duvie Westcott and Ian White but for now we will dare to dream. The next twenty four hours or so will, as always, be insane.

Lets just hope that Kevin Lowe keeps his head whilst those around him lose theirs.

It seems pretty safe to bet on the latter, not so safe to bet on the former.

Teams are allowed to exceed the cap by 10% over the summer - $62.37M. From NHLSCAP we are at 50M with Visnovsky. Leaving $12.37M. Speeds calculations at IOF for offer sheets show that at $5.2M we get 1st, 2nd and 3rd picks. At $5.3M we get another 1st. If Lowe intends to match to $5.2 for Pitkanen and take the picks at $5.3 he has just over $8M in cap room to work with. He then has to shed the 10% (or Visnovsky's salary).

I am convinced that bringing in Visnovsky is to protect against a Pitkanen offer sheet and the top-3 fwd comes from trading Visnovsky (+?) after and not a UFA. In spite of him 'being in his prime, he has a large cap hit when he is well past his prime.

my word verification is 'nosigcar' (no cigar??)

Sorry, we are at 49M not 50M - leaving 13.37M and the same 8M.

Now who could you be talking about? :)

I wish you hadn't brought up Bouwmeester, brother. You made my heart pitter patter.

"Guinness for life... Nathalie Portman's phone number..."

You think Souray and Torres could get one, the other or maybe both?!?!

All this is a little exciting though isn't it?

Optimistically, I predict (hope) the Oil will bring back Peca tomorrow in a friendly, final contract for as long as he thinks he can get 'er done.

Lowe will as usual provide plenty of 'fish stories' and misdirection.

Leading up to the Pitkanen O/S that the Oilers seem to expect which will allow this 3-way with LA and Ott to be completed. Depending on the value of the O/S, I think one deal would be around Visnovsky+ for Spezza. The other would be Pitkanen for Fisher/Vermette+

Fingers crossed.

Thing is I don't see an offer sheet for Pitkanen at all and I can't see Peca coming back west after a year complaining about living in the west.

Andy - you thought we had Dmen up the yahoo last year!?

k.l. - yeah its fun

With Katz getting introduced on Wednesday we know that they want to make a splash

Personally the idea of Hossa as an Oiler excites me. Paying him 9 million per for seven years, not so much

The fact that they are introducing Katz today, tells me management has nothing else to do which is why I am looking to the Yeti (Peca) sightings from Oilfans last week. A pro-sports booty-call. Whatever is going to happen is minor and pretty much already done except fot the i dotting and t crossing.

Sorry, forgot to add - Offer sheet or not, nothing happens until Joni signs. We all have to wait for the Campbell (and others) bridesmaids to settle down. Lowe made the Vanek offer in the first week of July.

Ummm - that was a typo - everything happens before Joni signs.

Proven, consistant performance replaces potential.

Visnovsky > Pitkanen
Cole > Torres

Peca > Stoll ?????
Greene?

MacT''s job just got easier - 2 less head cases.

I'm definitely half-right, but let's see if Kevin keeps his head.

We'll see - so far its been a good few days.

When I hear Huselius getting mentioned I throw up in my mouth a little.
